The first tranch of ‘Never Again – The Complete Works’ has now arrived at our distribution depot and we have commenced dispatch to customers.
This picture shows boxed sets at our hi-tech distribution facility, ready for dispatch.
Please note that as we are nearly sold out, any further orders are strictly subject to stock availability.
After a tremendous amount of discussion with our printer during the past two months we have now achieved a technical solution that presents all images to a very high standard and we are very satisfied with the results.
Achieving the highest possible quality has always been our objective and we hope that all those that have purchased ‘Never Again’ will acknowledge the importance of getting the final product to the required standard, albeit with a slight delay to the publishing schedule.
The final version of ‘Never Again’ has been submitted to the printer in electronic form, and we have been advised that the books will be delivered to our UK distribution centre in Wolverhampton in early December.
We will commence distribution from 10th December, but please bear in mind we have several hundred copies already ordered. Rest assured we will do our utmost to get them all dispatched as quickly as possible.
We will be using Parcelforce as our delivery agent, please note that all deliveries need to be signed for on receipt.
The design and compilation of “Never Again” was completed on schedule in August, after nearly ten years’ work, during which time we have sought to ensure that quality is paramount – reflecting our ethos back in the day when we were taking the photographs in the first place, some 50+ years ago.
So at every stage we have been careful to ensure that everything is done to a high standard; and those of you that have seen extracts or early proofs (e.g. on our website, or in the railway press, or on our stall at Kidderminster) will no doubt agree.
However, during the proofing checks, a number of issues arose which we have referred back to the printer (perhaps this is no surprise in four volumes and over one thousand pages!)
These are now sorted, but the time taken to review and deal with these issues was a little longer than anticipated.
As a result, the planned publication date is now expected to be towards the end of October. We apologise for this unavoidable slippage in our schedule, and we do hope that you will understand, as our over-riding intention is to maintain top quality throughout.
Following the success of our sales stand at Kidderminster Station (Severn Valley Railway) last weekend (pictured here), we have decided to extend our arrangements for advance ordering by post.
Arrangements for ordering via this website remain unchanged.

Here is the back cover of the slipcase, a montage of typical MNA engine-cleaning activities.

Never Again Volume 4 will run to 240 pages and cover the final months of steam, including sections on Buxton, Chinley and the Derbyshire Peaks, a return visit to Copy Pit, and of course the events of Spring and Summer 1968 which marked the very end of British Rail main-line steam operation, plus an account of the MNA’s engine cleaning activities.
Over half of this volume is devoted to personal accounts of how the various MNA members came to be involved in steam railway photography and recounts some of their early exploits.
Never Again Volume 3 is in large part devoted to the events of 1967, as British Rail steam operation started to draw to a close. It includes accounts of the swan song of the Jubilees, the end of steam working over Shap and Ais Gill, plus steam in the north-east of England, and the stories behind some of the most iconic steam locomotive pictures of the era. Volume 3 will total 256 pages.
